P Chidambaram was detained by the CBI on Wednesday night following a high-octane drama. He spent the night in the headquarters of the CBI.

In connection with the case of INX Media money laundering, on Thursday the trial of former Union minister P Chidambaram was expanded as a unique tribunal sent him to a CBI custody of five days. He continues in CBI custody until 26 August.

P Chidambaram was detained by the CBI on Wednesday night following a high-octane drama. He spent the night in the headquarters of the CBI.

In the morning, he was generated by the probe agency at the special tribunal requesting custody for five days. The CBI asserted that in its responses the Union minister was evasive and did not cooperate in the inquiry.

The CBI informed the tribunal that the custodial interrogation of P Chidambaram was essential in order to uncover greater conspiracy in the case of INX Media.

However, Kapil Sibal, the ex-ministers counsel, stated that the CBI could not expect to admit to P Chidambaram.

"During the investigation, CBI can not say that Chidambaram was evasive. Not confessing is not non-cooperation. He need not say yes to everything," Sibal informed the tribunal.
